Microblading, Microshading, Micrograyling, Micropowder: focus on the different permanent makeup techniques
Permanent makeup allows you to redraw your eyebrows and enhance your look. Different techniques are possible depending on the desired final result.
There are different techniques for creating permanent eyebrow makeup. All are performed using dermopigments and fine needles that implant the pigments under the surface layer of your skin. This type of makeup has the advantage of not requiring much maintenance (about one touch-up every year).
What are the different types of permanent makeup?
In total, there are 4 permanent makeup techniques: microblading, microshading, micrograyling and micropowder.
Microblading
Microblading is often done using a pen with a fine needle that allows you to redraw the thin areas of your eyebrows hair by hair.
Targeted objective
The microblading technique consists of reproducing the design of your eyebrow hairs. It is a hair-by-hair tracing that will give a realistic and natural effect.
For whom?
Microblading is particularly suitable for people with thinning eyebrows or suffering from alopecia following illness or chemotherapy. This technique is also recommended if you want a natural result.
The budget to plan for
To get microblading done in Paris or elsewhere, plan on a budget between €200 and €600, including a touch-up one month later. This technique is one of the most expensive. At Atelier du Sourcil, we do quality microblading for €300.
Microshading
This well-known technique is generally less painful than microblading and easier to perform.
The makeup effect of microshading
This type of permanent makeup uses a shading effect that intensifies the volume of your eyebrows. The beautician performs a series of small dots that give a powdery and more made-up effect than microblading.
When to favor microshading?
Microshading can fill in the gaps in your eyebrows. However, this technique should only be used if you want to achieve a more sophisticated and made-up effect, because in any case, the final result will be less natural than the first technique presented.
Its price
The average price for microshading is around €250 on average.
At Atelier du Sourcil, we perform microshading for €230.
Micrograyling
Micrograyling combines the illusion of real hair from microblading and the shading effects of microshading. It actually plays on the shading effects and 3D effects to give more relief to your eyebrows.
The benefits of micrograyling
This technique increases the volume of your eyebrows and makes them fuller. Micrograyling also gives a more made-up look without giving as powdery an effect as microshading.
The prices
Since this is a recent and more complex technique, prices can sometimes be high. Expect a budget of €350 in our workshops.
Micropowder
This is a very recent technique, which has only been available in our beauty salons for a few months. It uses a micro-powder that gives a unique veiling effect. The result is natural, but retains a slight powdery effect that gives style to your eyebrow makeup. Its price is often similar to that of microshading. In our workshops, the service is offered at €275.
How do you know which technique to use?
Choosing the right permanent makeup is not necessarily easy. Take the time to determine the result you want to achieve and get advice from an expert.
Make an appointment at a beauty salon
These techniques are often poorly understood by the general public, because they are based on specific know-how. To be sure of making the right choice, get advice from a beautician. Moreover, an appointment is often possible before the procedure to define the outline, the technique used and the pigments to be used. Note that your skin type (oily, combination, etc.) can also be taken into account to favor this or that make-up technique.
Take stock of your desires
The different types of permanent makeup give results that can vary: a natural effect for microblading, a more made-up effect for microshading. So take stock of the result you would like to achieve.
Be clear about your budget
Not all permanent eyebrow makeup techniques represent the same budget. On average, permanent eyebrow makeup costs between €150 and more than €500 in some institutes. However, microblading is generally more expensive, because it often takes longer to perform. Microshading and the other two techniques (micrograyling and micropowder) are generally more accessible. However, the prices of this type of service can vary greatly depending on the technique used, the reputation of the salon and its geographical location, but also depending on the quality of the dermopigments used.
